It seems like every time I speak to a teaching pro about what we do here at DrGolfrx, they say well we already have someone who does exercise therapy. I guess I need to clear that up. What we do comes before exercise therapy and really should come before golf instruction starts. Our role is and always has been to make the teaching pro more successful at getting students to play better faster and the exercise therapist more successful at getting people stronger using the correct muscle patterns. Hence, we say “Function First.” Yes, my friends, we are on the same team!

We believe that the teaching pro must assess the ability of the student’s body to perform the correct movements used in the golf swing first, much like we assess golf equipment for correct length, weight, loft and lie, grip size and shaft type. The same assessment can be done with the human body and how it functions by using a few simple screens. By examining the results of this “functional” analysis, you can readily see what the student will and will not be capable of doing. This information will be invaluable to you as a teaching pro and the amount of time you can save by not working on movements the student can’t make and spending all your time working on the movements the student can make. We are in the process of making a brief video showing how to perform these screens as well as how to measure them. No tools are necessary. Please send us your email address and we will forward the video to you when it is ready.
