Body Function
The Function of the human body in the golf swing is crucial to understanding why golfers struggle with:
- Low back pain
- Elbow pain
- Slicing
- Power
- Getting over plateaus
At DrGolfRX, we believe that once you understand human body function, you will begin to understand the body movements necessary to correctly perform a golf swing (or “why you swing the way you do”).
There are five fundamental movements, called the Functional Fundamentals (FF), which are necessary for the body to swing the golf club properly. They are:
- Foot: Calcaneus eversion
- Ankle dorsiflexion
- Hip joint internal rotation
- Hip extension
- Thoracic spine extension
An example is what we call the DrGolfRX Functional Foundation. The Functional Foundation is the back leg during your golf swing. In your golf swing your body moves on top of your back leg as your back leg stays stable. For the Functional Foundation to be possible, the back leg’s heel must evert and the hip must internally rotate. This allows the thoracic spine to extend and rotate creating the separation of the upper body and lower body necessary for proper golf swing mechanics.
Any dysfunction in your body can cause one or more of the FF to not function properly and predispose you to abnormal body movements and cause you to have swing faults. By fixing your body function, DrGolfRX allows your body to produce the movements necessary for you to swing a golf club more powerfully, without slicing, and without low back or elbow pain.
To see which body dysfunction you have that is limiting your golfing ability upload a video of your golf swing to DrGolfRX.com. When we receive your video one of our doctors will analyze your golf swing and write you a detailed report. In your report you will receive a detailed analysis of your body function including:
- Which Functional Fundamental(s) are limiting your golfing ability
- What needs to be done to fix your body dysfunction
- How to tweak your body so you can teach around their body dysfunction
