Body Function

The Function of the human body in the golf swing is crucial to understanding why golfer struggle with:

  • Low back pain
  • Elbow pain
  • Slicing
  • Power
  • Staying at plateaus

At DrGolfRX, we believe that once you understand human body function, you will understand the body movements necessary to correctly perform a golf swing (or “why golfers swing the way they do”).

There are five fundamental movements, called the Functional Fundamentals (FF), which are necessary for the body to swing the golf club properly. They are:

  1. Foot: Calcaneus eversion
  2. Ankle dorsiflexion
  3. Hip joint internal rotation
  4. Hip extension
  5. Thoracic spine extension

An example is what we call the DrGolfRX Functional Foundation. The Functional Foundation is the entire back leg during your golf swing. In your golf swing your body moves on top of your back leg as your back leg stays stable or stationary.

For the Functional Foundation to be possible the back legs’ heel must evert and the hip must internally rotate. This allows the thoracic spine to extend and rotate creating the separation of the upper body and lower body necessary for proper golf swing mechanics.

Any dysfunction in one of the 5 functional fundamentals disrupts the ability of the back leg to stay stable while the upper body and torso rotate on it. This predisposes golfers to abnormal body movements that cause swing faults. By fixing your students’ joint restrictions first, DrGolfRX allows their body to produce the movements necessary to swing a golf club more powerfully, without slicing, and without low back or elbow pain.

A simple and easy way for you to find out if your students have joint restrictions is to upload us videos of your students’ golf swings to drgolfrx.com. When we receive your video one of our doctors will analyze your students’ golf swing and write you a detailed report. In your report you will receive a detailed analysis of your student’s body movement including:

  1. Which Joint Restrictions are limiting their golfing ability
  2. What needs to be done to fix your students’ joint restriction
  3. How to tweak your students’ body so you can teach around their joint restriction until the restriction is fixed

The cost for a DrGolfRX email video analysis and detailed report is $29.95. Please upload a video of your swing by clicking here.
